TJ Johnson is one of the UK’s finest vocalist and rhythm and blues piano players.
Accompanied by his band of gritty, young musicians, he masterfully combines soulful vocals with swinging piano to perform a highly infectious mix of jazz, blues, swing and saloon songs that delighted our audience last year.
While TJ’s musical influences include Ray Charles, Dr John, Louis Armstrong, Johnny Cash, BB King, Nina Simone, Alberta Hunter, Tom Waits and Jimmy Witherspoon, his very distinctive voice reminds the audience that he has his own definite sound.
His music still engages a traditional audience but also captivates a younger crowd and this is what makes his band stand out from the many others on the scene – its music that people really makes you want to listen.
TJ Johnson & his Band play regular dates at London venues such as The 100 Club, The Pizza Express and The Bull’s Head Barns, and at festivals in the UK
– including Birmingham, Marlborough, Reading Real Ale & Jazz, Abersoch, Holywood, Bute, Upton and Edinburgh. His band is also popular at festivals in Europe and has played amongst others, Silda (Norway), Gothenburg (Sweden), Enkhuizen (Netherlands), Dresden (Germany) and Silkeborg (Denmark).
TJ has recorded 7 albums, but his latest 'The Heat of the Night' (Lake Records) is generally regarded as his best yet.
